Back for another on-location edition of our ‘Match of the Week’ illustration series in beautiful, chilly Melbourne.

When you watch a lot of wrasslin’ like some of us do, you often find yourself going down weird ‘rabbit-holes’. And sometimes that results in finding some incredible gems that you’d never even heard of. This was one of such gems!

This absolutely terrific match took place for the CWA Intercontinental Championship on December 21st, 1996 at the ‘Euro Catch Festival’ for the Catch Wrestling Association at the ‘Festzelt auf der Bürgerweide’ in Bremen Deutschland.

As you may have guessed, I have a lot of love for the Funker. So when I find a fresh Terry match that I was unaware of, I get very excited! And this was against another dude who I adore, the amazing Belfast Brawler, Dave ‘Fit’ Finlay no less!!

Safe to say, this delivered everything I was hoping for & then some. Finlay’s rugged charms & great fire, Terry’s very special & unique ‘Terry-isms’, some absolutely tremendous punch exchanges & just a whole lot of weird & wonderful. Including some amazing musical breaks in between rounds, celebrating the best of 80s American pop culture in 1996 Germany. Can’t tell you how excited I got when we got Final Countdown for the last round break!! Terry entering to The Boss's ‘Born in the USA’ & Finlay to Boney M was also just a true delight!

Highly recommended!

Artists’ Note: the reference material was from an often blurry, questionable quality fancam so picking the moment was a challenge to say the least! I was actually pretty happy with the end product given the blurry-ness of the reference shot, as you can see. I think the practice of doing this thing every week helps.
